Take down these dates, January 18th - 21st...it's Martin Luther King weekend, and also the 2013 Flyin' to the Hoop at the Trent Arena. Some of the top teams from around the country, and the state, come to Dayton for this 4 day event. The action starts on Friday night with 2 games featuring 3 of the top 10 teams in the country.
In game 1, Findley Prep out of Nevada plays Thurgood Marshall out of the Dayton City League. Thurgood is widely seen as the best team in Ohio, regardless of division. The 2nd game features Huntington Prep in West Virginia, with their 5-star senior Forward Andrew Wiggins. They play La Lumiere HS in Indiana. Both games will be heard on 1410 ESPN Radio.
The event is great, in my opinion, because of the Ohio/Dayton against the concept. It was designed that way, and has given Ohio high schools a stage to show off the great basketball talent the Buckeye state has to offer. Everyone hears Ohio and thinks football, and while they should, they should also think basketball. Ask LeBron James, or Jerry Lucas, or John Havlicek, or Jim Jackson...all from the Heart of it all.
So, make it out to the Trent Arena in Kettering...but get those tickets early. The secret is out about, Flyin' to the Hoop...and you should not miss 2013. For ticket and schedule info, go to flyintothehoop.com
