Gotta know when your stock is at its highest

We have heard two names, in the world of sports, quite a bit lately...and for good reason. Stanford Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, and his Quarterback, redshirt Sophomore Andrew Luck. Both men play or played Quarterback. Both come from football backgrounds, both are part of the Stanford community, and now both have stock that are through the roof. As Eminem famously said, "opportunity comes once in a lifetime"...and that's if you are lucky. But rarely does it come along twice.

Both men need to act now. Luck may want to stay, get his degree, be BMOC for another year, but he can't. Ask Matt Leinart how that worked, or Jake Locker? When your opportunity comes, it may not be at the ideal time, but you still cant pass on it. Most high draft picks are taken based on "potential". Once we see you play, especially as much as we saw Leinart, there is no more "unknown"...therefore you are not as hot a commodity.

If Luck is as good as everyone says, then staying another year shouldnt hurt. But you cant go higher than #1 overall, and Carolina has stated he would be their pick if in the draft. College is fun, trust me, but that money is even better. Take your opportunities when they come, not when you want them to come. Apparently Luck really is where preperation and opportunity intersect.

Touche' Mr. Neal
You are quite correct that when the opportunity arises, you must take advantage! We saw what happened to Locker and as you said, if he is as good as everyone thinks then things shouldn't change in another year. Look at Sam Bradford, he knew what he had to do and did it! #1 overall, big pay check, crappy team but he became the name and face of the organization and they battled for a divisonal title (as bad a the division is). If Harbaugh goes, so does Luck. If they both stay, look out for Stanford in 2011!-Brandon O. KunkleFairborn, Ohio

Leinhart & Locker were gonna be the #1 picks after their Jr seasons before NFL GMs got to them, they both would have dropped because Mel Kiper & Todd McShay don't draft - they mock-draft. Luck should do whatever he wants. The NFL millions will be there for him because he's smart & talented, not just a good college QB...
