The NBA decided to crackdown on the latest issue surrounding the game, flopping. We see it in every sport...it's simply deception. Just like a baseball player sometimes "pretends" to be hit by a baseball, a basketball player may "pretend" to be fouled.
The NBA has decided it will begin fining players for, what the officials determine to be, flopping. That goes for all players, but we shall see. Drawing the charge is part of the game, and if the refs had issues picking out flopping from normal contact before, what makes anyone believe they can tell the difference now? This is going to be sticky, early on, until they get things worked through.
This will not deter too much from the attempt to draw charges, or even to curb flopping. Players will always decieve, maybe they will just be more judicious about it going forward. I feel this has more to do with the league wanting more offense on the scoreboard. Points usually equal interest, which usually equals viewers and meat in the seats...which is all that matters to owners. I think the league figures, if the lanes are clearer, they will get more scoring and highlights...win/win.
Now, it's on the refs, because that's my money, man. I don't want half a game check because Joey Crawford had bad egg salad before the game. So, good luck with picking out the flops, they will still be there!
