Offsides with Christina

I’m a Pennsylvania native (but I'm not a Steelers or Eagles fan!) and have lived in the area for a couple years now. When I'm not working, I'm coaching swimming. If you want ask me a question, or don't like my blog, or just want to give me some coaching advice, I'd love to hear from you!

Mark Sanchez is Guilty...

of bad judgment.

Deadspin is reporting that the Jets 24-year-old QB had a ‘relationship’ with a 17-year-old Connecticut girl.  According to New York and New Jersey law, the age of consent is 17 in New York and 16 in New Jersey, so that means Sanchez has done nothing, legally, wrong.  Eliza Kruger, the young woman in question, says that she and Sanchez met New Years Eve at a nightclub in New York, and that over the next few weeks they talked and even ‘hooked up’.

Kruger apparently told Sanchez, the night she met him, that she was 17, but added that ’17 is legal in New York’.  That line alone should have tipped off the California stud, that a high school girl is aware, for whatever reason, of the consenting age, you should probably run far away.  However, the two exchanged text messages, though those were never revealed, but pictures were, of inside Sanchez’s New Jersey home.  Kruger claims that the two of them met up for dinner and went back to his place; I’ll let you imagine what the two did but the pictures she shared were of his bedroom (below).

So far, Sanchez has yet to say anything, and all the Jets are saying is that they don’t comment on players’ personal lives, though at this point they should probably hire someone to deal with all these off the field issues they seem to attract.

This is, just as the Rex Ryan foot fetish videos, a non-sports issue, more of a moral issue.  On one side, what the hell was a 17-year-old doing in a New York night club anyway?  Secondly, if she really did tell Sanchez she was 17, he should have said, ‘nice to meet you, good luck in life’.  The young women though may have inadvertently shed a light on something that may affect Sanchez later on down the road.  In a correspondence with an employee of Deadspin, she wrote that, ‘He is a genuine person but not necessarily good to women. You know?’

Sanchez has played the role very well of the nice guy.  Many outlets, including this one, have refused to comment on the story or even run it, and rightly so, as I said, it is a non-sports issue especially since the football season is over.  If this was a month ago, that would be a different story; he’d be playing in the AFC Championship game.  Sanchez got lucky, and he may even be lucky enough that many people don’t find out about this, but if he really isn’t good to women, then this is only the first of many issues to come.
