Incredible...I didnt think it would happen...the Reds extented the contract of former NL MVP Joey Votto and he will remain in Cincinnati for the long run. As Phil Castellini said at the Reds Caravan, "We will always be a small market team," thats why I thought this wouldnt happen. Did the Reds make the right financial decision, only time will tell.

As a player, few are the peer of Votto. A complete hitter with power, average, and an eye that has helped him lead the NL in OBP the past two seasons. He is a great player, but can the Reds organization afford to pay them? I feel the team did this to show fans their chips are all in to win, and that is great. Is this decision going to end up hurting the Reds due to money, that wouldnt be so great.
This does probably mean Brandon Phillips is gone after the season. All he did was win the Silver Slugger and the Gold Glove a 2nd Base in 2011...a key player on and off the field. When they win, its as a team, not as a player...they need to keep more of the team than the player...can they afford to now, probably not.
