ARE SCOUTS RUINING BASEBALL

Mark Schlemmer - ESPN 1410 WING

Now think about it, are these guys destroying this great game by all of their silly stop watches and radar guns? Are they too busy trying to reinvent the game with things like launch angle and spin rate? How about exit velocity off the bat?? Has it now become nothing more than robotic scouting instead of being able to watch a kid play and know if they are good enough? These guys that are paid to scout and find players that can one day make it to the big leagues are nothing more than spelling bee winners and guys that just want to be seen… sad but true…

Yes there are a few good scouts that do their jobs without having to let everyone in the park know who they are and these few guys also don’t get caught up using the latest words like plus-plus or organizational player… they just do their job plain and simple… yes the game has changed like most things do but in the end it’s still a simple game..

You throw the ball… You catch the ball… You hit the ball…

Scouts that wet their pants if a kid runs a fast 60 time are clueless in my eyes because if the kid can’t hit or throw all the speed in the world won’t help…

It’s sad to watch scouts destroy baseball and a kids dreams with their ridiculous jargon but at this point, that’s what’s happening… maybe one day scouts will get back to watching the game without stop watches and radar guns and be able to tell if the kid can play or not…

If Pete Rose went to a tryout camp today he’d never see the batters box and well, you know how good he was…

Mike Piazza was a 62nd round draft pick only because he was related somehow to Tommy Lasorda and now he’s in The Hall of Fame…

Oh well, the stop watch says my typing angle and exit velocity are bad so it’s time to stop… but my thoughts are plus-plus…
