Kettering Police Department, along with the National Insurance Crime Bureau and Midas, are hosting a Catalytic Converter Marking Event on July 14.

The event, taking place from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., will be at Midas Auto Repair, located at 2390 E. Dorothy Lane in Kettering. For those that reserve a spot for the event, their catalytic converter will be etched with the last 8 numbers of their vehicle’s VIN and sprayed with heat resistant spray paint, in an effort to deter thefts of catalytic converters.

The NCIB released data from 2022, showing the U.S. experienced more than 64,000 catalytic converter thefts in that year alone.

According to a social media post from KPD, 30 minute time blocks can be reserved by contacting Lt. Moore at 937-296-3335 or Officer Johnson at 937-296-2458.
