REDS ACQUIRE OF TRAVIS JANKOWSKI FROM PADRES
San Diego Receives International Cap Space
CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Reds President of Baseball Operations Dick Williams today announced the acquisition of OF Travis Jankowski from the San Diego Padres for International Cap Space.
“Travis is a plus runner and above average defender with Major League experience,” Williams said. “He handles the bat and bunts well and has shown an ability to get on base. He should provide us with good depth at all three outfield positions.”
Jankowski, 28, has played in parts of 5 seasons with the Padres since they selected him 44th overall in the supplemental first round of the 2012 first-year player draft. He was limited to 25 games in 2019 because of a fractured right wrist suffered during spring training, but in 2018 he led the Padres with 24 stolen bases and 70 starts batting leadoff.
Jankowski has played all 3 outfield positions in the Major Leagues, including 153 career appearances in center field, 99 career games in right field and 62 career appearances in left field.
In other roster moves today, IF José Iglesias and LHP Alex Wood became free agents.
